1995
A back room and a wax file
Nagual begins with Joseph Bortoli carving wax by hand and casting one piece at a time. No catalogue, no wholesale — pieces made for people he knew.
2004
Silver on leather
The house signature arrives: solid sterling buckles set into vegetable-tanned leather, heavy enough to outlive the belt they sit on.

The nagual
The name comes from the Mesoamerican idea of a spirit double — the animal a person carries inside. The work has always been about what you carry, not what you display.
2019
Carried, not collected
The pieces travel — musicians, actors, riders, quiet private clients. Never a campaign. Always a person, and the marks the metal picks up along the way.

The Azteca link returns, cut from the original masters, cast in small batches and antiqued by hand so the shadows stay in the metal.
